well they say
that santa fe
is less than
ninety miles away
it made me laugh to hear that was the first line of the song albuquerque.
usually when albuquerque comes up in conversation (and i’m not actually in albuquerque) and i say how much i absolutely love that town, people will tell me either oh, they drove through there once on the way to x, or oh, they got themselves into some situation there that they rather wished they hadn’t, or oh, they know nothing about it except that a particular wascally wabbit took a left/right turn there.
which is fine. i really don’t need people to like it or understand why i like it. it doesn’t matter much to me either way. i absolutely absolutely love the (maybe not so random border lines of the) state of new mexico and within that i absolutely love albuquerque. i absolutely ohsoveryclearly remember my nineteen year old eyes drinking in every detail i could as soon as i stepped off the plane. it was like nothing i had ever seen or imagined.
it was awesome.
and, to boot, i met the most amazing, awesome-ist, guapo-est, artist/spirit/friend there. and we’re still partners in crime, thick as thieves. well. i guess his title as most amazing-est person is now shared with our pip, so you know. but still.
the point of all this is this SONG.
i didn’t know this song existed! since 1975, even. neil young wrote and recorded it in the way back. and iron and wine covered it in the less way back and just released it now, apparently. and i’m so very glad npr has mentioned all of this because i might not otherwise have known. about this song. and apparently i love this song. and yey for finding songs one loves.
